นิรุกติศาสตร์และส่วนประกอบ

The Chinese character 税 (shuì) for "tax" is composed of two parts: the radical 禾 (hé) and the phonetic component 兑 (duì). The radical 禾, which means "grain" or "crop", indicates that the character is related to agriculture and economics. The phonetic component 兑, which is pronounced as "duì", provides the character with its pronunciation. The original meaning of 税 was "to exchange goods for grain". In ancient China, farmers would pay taxes to the government in the form of grain. Over time, the meaning of 税 expanded to include other forms of taxation, such as taxes on land, property, and income. The character 税 has been used in Chinese for thousands of years. It is found in many ancient texts, including the Book of Songs and the Analects of Confucius. Today, 税 is still used in Chinese to refer to taxes. It is also used in other languages, such as Japanese and Korean, where it has the same meaning.
