นิรุกติศาสตร์และส่วนประกอบ

The Chinese word 土豆 (tǔdòu) for potato is derived from the Spanish word "patata". The Spanish word "patata" is believed to have originated from the Taíno language of the Caribbean, where it was known as "batata". The word "batata" was then introduced to Europe by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, and it eventually made its way to China. In Chinese, the word "tǔdòu" is a combination of two characters: "tǔ" (土), which means "earth", and "dòu" (豆), which means "bean". This name reflects the fact that potatoes grow underground and are often used as a substitute for beans in Chinese cuisine.
