นิรุกติศาสตร์และส่วนประกอบ

The Chinese word 营养 (yíngyǎng) is composed of two characters: 营 (yíng) and 养 (yǎng). The character 营 originally meant "military camp" or "garrison", but it also came to be used in the sense of "nourishment" or "sustenance". The character 养 means "to nourish" or "to raise". Together, the two characters 营养 mean "nutrition" or "nourishment".The word 营养 was first used in Chinese in the 19th century, when it was borrowed from the Japanese word 栄養 (eiyō). The Japanese word 栄養 was in turn borrowed from the English word "nutrition". The English word "nutrition" comes from the Latin word nutrire, which means "to nourish".The word 营养 is now commonly used in Chinese to refer to the nutrients that are essential for human health. These nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals. 营养 is also used to refer to the process of providing the body with these nutrients.
