นิรุกติศาสตร์และส่วนประกอบ

The Chinese word 修养 (xiūyǎng) is composed of two characters: 修 (xiū) and 养 (yǎng). The character 修 originally meant "to trim" or "to cut," but it later came to mean "to cultivate" or "to refine." The character 养 originally meant "to nourish" or "to feed," but it later came to mean "to cultivate" or "to develop." Together, the two characters 修养 mean "to cultivate oneself" or "to refine oneself." This term is often used in the context of moral cultivation or self-improvement. In Confucianism, for example, 修养 is considered to be an important aspect of becoming a君子(jūnzǐ), or a "superior person."
