The Chinese word 家里 (jiālǐ) is composed of two characters: 家 (jiā) and 里 (lǐ). 家 means "home" or "family", while 里 means "inside" or "within". Together, 家里 literally means "inside the home" or "within the family". It is used to refer to one's own home or family, as well as to the people who live there. For example, 我家里有五口人 (wǒ jiālǐ yǒu wǔ kǒu rén) means "There are five people in my family". 家里 can also be used to refer to the affairs or activities of one's home or family. For example, 家里有事 (jiālǐ yǒu shì) means "There is something going on at home".
