The Chinese word 入门 (rùmén) is composed of two characters: 入 (rù) and 门 (mén). 入 means "to enter" or "to come in," while 门 means "door" or "gate." Together, 入门 literally means "to enter the door" or "to step through the gate." In a figurative sense, 入门 is used to refer to the act of beginning to learn or study something, as in the phrase 入门容易, 精通难 (rùmén róngyì, jīngtōng nán), which means "It's easy to get started, but hard to master." 入门 can also be used to refer to the introductory level of a subject or field, as in the phrase 入门课程 (rùmén kèchéng), which means "introductory course."
