The Chinese word 外面 (wàimiàn) is composed of two characters: 外 (wài) and 面 (miàn). 外 means "outside" or "external", while 面 means "surface" or "side". Together, 外面 literally means "the outside surface" or "the outer side". It is used to refer to the exterior of something, such as the outside of a building or the outside of a box. It can also be used to refer to the external environment or the world outside of a particular place or situation. For example, you could say 我想出去看看外面的世界 (wǒ xiǎng chūqù kànkan wàimiàn de shìjiè), which means "I want to go out and see the world outside".
