Etymologi og komponenter

The Chinese character 得 (dé) is composed of two parts: the radical 彳 (chì), which represents a person walking, and the phonetic component 悳 (dé), which represents virtue or goodness. The original meaning of 得 was "to obtain" or "to get", which is still its most common meaning today. However, 得 can also be used in a more abstract sense to mean "to be able to" or "to be worthy of". For example, the phrase 得道 (dédào) means "to attain the Way" or "to become enlightened", while the phrase 得人心 (dé rénxīn) means "to win the hearts of the people".The character 得 has a long history, dating back to the Shang dynasty (c. 1600-1046 BC). It was originally written as 獲 (huò), which is still used today as a variant form of 得. The character 得 was first used in its current form during the Zhou dynasty (c. 1046-256 BC).The character 得 is pronounced dé in Mandarin, dak in Cantonese, and dak in Hokkien. It is also used in Japanese, where it is pronounced toku.
