The Chinese word 持续 (chíxù) means "to continue" or "to last". It is composed of two characters: 持 (chí), which means "to hold" or "to maintain", and 续 (xù), which means "to continue" or "to extend". The word 持续 can be used in a variety of contexts, such as to describe the weather, a person's health, or a project's progress. For example, we can say 天气持续晴朗 (tiānqì chíxù qínglǎng) to mean "the weather will remain sunny", or 他/她的健康状况持续改善 (tā/tā de jiànkāng zhuàngkuàng chíxù gǎishàn) to mean "his/her health is improving steadily". The word 持续 can also be used in a more abstract sense, such as to describe the continuation of a tradition or a belief. For example, we can say 中华民族的传统文化持续发展 (zhōnghuá mínzú de chuántǒng wénhuà chíxù fāzhǎn) to mean "the traditional culture of the Chinese nation continues to develop".
