The Chinese character 默默 (mòmò) is composed of two parts: the radical 目 (mù), which means "eye", and the phonetic component 莫 (mò). The original meaning of 默默 was "to look at something silently", which later evolved to mean "to be silent" or "to keep something to oneself". In modern Chinese, 默默 is often used to describe someone who is quiet, reserved, or introspective. It can also be used to describe something that is done in a quiet or unassuming way. For example, a person who is studying hard for an exam might be described as 默默无闻 (mòmò wúwén), which means "to study hard in silence".
