Etymology & Components

The Chinese word 长处 (chángchù) is composed of two characters: 长 (cháng) and 处 (chù). The character 长 originally meant "long" or "tall," but it has also come to mean "to grow" or "to develop." The character 处 originally meant "place" or "location," but it has also come to mean "to deal with" or "to handle." When these two characters are combined, they form the word 长处, which means "strength" or "advantage." This is because a person's strengths are the areas in which they are able to grow and develop, and they are the areas in which they are able to deal with and handle challenges.
