The Chinese word 放到 (fàngdào) is composed of two characters: 放 (fàng) and 到 (dào). The character 放 means "to put", "to place", or "to let go", while the character 到 means "to arrive", "to reach", or "to attain". Together, the two characters 放到 literally mean "to put down" or "to place down". However, in the context of the Chinese language, 放到 can also be used figuratively to mean "to give up", "to abandon", or "to let go of something". For example, the sentence 他把书放到了桌子上 (tā bǎ shū fàngdào le zhuōzi shàng) means "He put the book on the table", while the sentence 他放到了自己的梦想 (tā fàngdào le zìjǐ de mèngxiǎng) means "He gave up on his dream".
