The Chinese word 游人 (yóurén) is composed of two characters: 游 (yóu) and 人 (rén). The character 游 originally meant "to walk" or "to travel", and later extended to mean "to play" or "to enjoy oneself". The character 人 simply means "person". Thus, the compound word 游人 literally means "a person who travels or plays". In modern Chinese, 游人 is used to refer to tourists or visitors, especially those who are visiting a place for leisure or recreation. It can also be used to refer to people who are simply out and about, enjoying their time.
