The Chinese word for game console, 游戏机 (yóuxìjī), is a compound of two characters: 游戏 (yóuxì), meaning "game", and 机 (jī), meaning "machine". The term 游戏机 was coined in the early 20th century, when the first mechanical game consoles were introduced in China.
