Étymologie et composants

The Chinese word 意见 (yìjiàn) is composed of two characters: 意 (yì) and 见 (jiàn). 意 originally meant "heart" or "mind", and later extended to mean "thought" or "idea". 见 originally meant "to see" or "to meet", and later extended to mean "opinion" or "view". So the word 意见 literally means "meeting of the minds" or "exchange of ideas". It is often used to refer to someone's opinion or suggestion, or to a difference of opinion between two or more people. For example, 你有什么意见?(nǐ yǒu shénme yìjiàn?) means "What do you think?" or "What is your opinion?" and 我们意见不一致。(wǒmen yìjiàn bù yízhì.) means "We have different opinions."
