The Chinese word 光盘 (guāngpán) literally means "bright disc". It is composed of two characters: 光 (guāng), meaning "bright" or "light", and 盘 (pán), meaning "disc" or "plate". The term 光盘 is often used to refer to a compact disc (CD), which is a type of optical disc used to store digital data. CDs are made of a plastic material and have a reflective coating on one side. When a laser beam is shone on the reflective coating, it creates a pattern of light that can be read by a CD player. The term 光盘 can also be used to refer to a DVD (digital versatile disc), which is a type of optical disc that is similar to a CD but has a higher storage capacity.
