Étymologie et composants

The Chinese word 美术 (měishù) for "fine arts" is a compound of two characters: 美 (měi), meaning "beautiful" or "aesthetic," and 术 (shù), meaning "art" or "technique." The term "fine arts" is used to refer to the visual arts, including painting, sculpture, drawing, and architecture, as well as the performing arts, such as music, dance, and theater. In Chinese culture, the concept of beauty has traditionally been closely associated with the idea of harmony and balance, and the fine arts have been seen as a means of expressing these qualities. The term 美术 (měishù) is therefore used to describe the arts that are considered to be the most refined and aesthetically pleasing.
