Étymologie et composants

The Chinese word 权利 (quánlì) is a compound word consisting of two characters: 权 (quán) and 利 (lì). The character 权 originally meant "a balance" or "a weighing scale," and later came to mean "power" or "authority." The character 利 originally meant "profit" or "benefit," and later came to mean "right" or "interest." Thus, the word 权利 literally means "the power to benefit" or "the right to profit." In modern Chinese, 权利 is used to refer to a person's legal rights and interests, as well as to the power and authority that a person or organization has.
