Étymologie et composants

The Chinese word 抗议 (kàngyì) is a compound word consisting of two characters: 抗 (kàng) and 议 (yì). The character 抗 originally meant "to carry on the shoulder" or "to bear", but in modern Chinese it has come to mean "to resist" or "to oppose". The character 议 originally meant "to discuss" or "to deliberate", but in modern Chinese it has come to mean "a proposal" or "a resolution". Thus, the word 抗议 literally means "to resist a proposal" or "to oppose a resolution". It is used to express disapproval or opposition to something, typically an action or policy of a government or organization.
