Étymologie et composants

The Chinese word 叔叔 (shūshu) for "uncle" is composed of two characters: 叔 (shū), which originally meant "elder brother of one's father", and 叔 (shū), which is a repetition of the first character for emphasis. The word 叔叔 is therefore literally "elder brother of one's father's elder brother", and it is used to refer to any male relative who is the brother of one's father or mother. In modern usage, 叔叔 can also be used as a term of address for any older man who is not a close relative, such as a teacher or a neighbor.
