Étymologie et composants

The Chinese word "放假" (fàngjià) is composed of two characters: "放" (fàng) and "假" (jià). The character "放" means "to release" or "to let go", while the character "假" means "false" or "not real". When combined, the two characters form the word "放假", which literally means "to release from the false". In ancient China, people believed that holidays were a time when people were released from the illusion of everyday life and could experience the true nature of reality. Over time, the meaning of "放假" has evolved to simply mean "holiday" or "vacation".
