The Chinese word 游戏 (yóuxì) for "game" is composed of two characters: 游 (yóu) and 戏 (xì). The character 游 originally meant "to travel" or "to roam", and later extended to mean "to play" or "to amuse oneself". The character 戏 originally meant "to perform" or "to act", and later extended to mean "a play" or "a game".
